wow

Straight-talking maverick, John McCain, can't even admit that condoms help stop the spread of HIV? I mean, what?

I am really going to enjoy watching all these Republicans with relatively moderate social records sqeal and squirm as they try to out flip-flop eachother.

Fox--hey, thats me

Great editorial in the LA times today.

Now, here is my only question. If this balance is achieved, where dems agree to use fox news but not validate it, and reps agree to use the media establishment but not validate it, doesnt that mean that dems are sort of equating their usage of the media establishment with reps use of fox news? Obviously, that cant stand.

Perhaps George Soros needs to start a news channel. But liberal news? That would be too boring, waaaay to boring. Air America has a listenership of about 2. Should everyone just admit that the New York Times has no intention of providing objective news? No, because that is not the case, but Democrats cant just say the times is objective, and just happens to agree with us, always.

But the medium really is the message. Instead of having a bunch of rich assholes scream at you telling you what you should believe, what if democrats dominate the internet, youtube and blogs. Youtube definately played in dems favor in 2006--remember macaca and 'harold, call me?" if the truth is on dems side, then just get the truth out there, no filters. Get it, put it on there, and let the people decide. I, for one, would much rather watch youtube than fox news.

Cheney? More like Chingy...

Ok, you dont need me to tell you that Cheney is already blowed, and bout to be blowed some mo'. But, honestly, this takes guts, getting in front of AIPAC and basically calling Democrats traitors. Now, if there is a good argument for why we should stay in Iraq, I am all ears, but such an argument would probably entail an exit strategy, clear military goals, a way of securing the funds and forces necessary, an ability to conduct diplomacy, and a track-record--or at least a single instance--of honesty.

But why not just name call, instead.

In 1969, Nixon reassured the American people that "North Vietnam cannot defeat or humiliate the United States, only Americans can do that....and oh yea, the North Vietnamese killed 10,000 US soldiers this year, but that was the hippies fault. Also, don't all you guys hate that blacks can vote?" [citation needed]

Now Cheney is honestly doing this again?

Saying that opponets are undermining the war? Come on, guy. This of course is nothing new. You people are going to lose this war and as a parting blow your going to try to turn America against itself again? We've been through that, it don't work. No one remembers Nixon as the guy who was felled by hippies, and Cindy Shehan ain't gonna be Bush's scapegoat in the history books.

President Bush wants Congress to give him a hundo billion "with no strings attached." Has he ever even read the constitution? Do your freaking jobs, DC. Its not that hard.

thats what she said.

More like 0

300, honestly, was one of the worst movies i have seen in a long time. How could i possibly be so bored watching all those boobies and people stabbing eachother?

Now, Sin City was great, but the comic book, computer generated style did not work in this movie, esp since the color scheme was just distracting and annoying. Scene after scene, the same thing happens: people kill some people, say some paltitude about why they are killing people, then kill more people, before getting themselves killed. Now, i am all for gratuitous and excessive violence in movies (see, Sin City) but shouldnt that violence at least, oh i dont know, excite you. There was no tone to this movie, no thrust. Richard Roeper's review is way off. A.O. Scott's is much better.

There were some cool scenes, like when those two dudes were going nuts on all those other dudes (ok, i realize that describes every scene, but you know which one i mean). But, come on, is this really where we want epic movies to go? For all the Gladiators and Saving Private Ryans to be replaced with sluggish, green-screen serials that feel more like the vignettes between levels in video games? I didn't think so.

Evil Empire

On John McCain, in todays LA times: "His career since then (2000) has indeed resembled a certain famous Jedi. He began as a crusader for justice. Soon he realized that he needed to acquire more power in order to accomplish his noble goals. But over time, his pursuit of power became the goal itself, and by the end he lost his capacity to differentiate between right and wrong."

You burned me once, Anakin. I'm not getting duped again.

This, of course, opens up the field for a new Luke, someone who still believes in the ideals that, supposedly, are at the heart of the Republican party, but still has the courage to rail against all the terrible injustice that it has come to represent. On Monday, Chuck Skywalker is announcing (hopefully) that he's gonna challenge look-at-me-i'm-a-big-baby Guiliani. Could Hagel usurp power from the backwards Republican base by running a "Bush is the worst president ever" campaign? Probably not, but that would be some exciting politics. But, even assuming McCain is DOA, and Rudy somehow covers up the fact that he is such a terrible person that the people who made his career--firefighters-- and his own son dont even want him to be elected, the question is this: can he honestly spend the next two years defending his support not only for this war, but for an escalated version of it, and have an Irishman's chance in hell of getting more electoral votes than even Bloomberg will on his I'm Rich, Bitch ticket? Is there any republican besides for Hagel who can be taken seriously?

Wait til monday.
